Sheffield United sit at the summit of the Championship following a hard-fought 1-0 win against Hull City at the weekend.
The Blades are currently one point clear of West Bromwich Albion at the top and Chris Wilder will be pleased with how his team are playing as they head into the international break.
One man that has delighted the manager, and those at Bramall Lane, is Chris Basham and talks are already underway to get him to sign an extension to his present contract.
Speaking to the Sheffield Star after the win against the Tigers, Wilder revealed: “It’s always ongoing.
“I think Bash is immense, a manager’s dream. He plays a number of positions without complaining and gives his all for the cause. He’s fully deserved of a new deal, and that’s got to be the carrot for the rest of the group; go and earn a new deal.
“We’re in a healthy position regarding contracts and the players, staff and fans are all together here. Bash is a big part of that.”
Trying Basham to an extension will certainly prove to be good business for Sheffield United.
The defender has been a key figure for the Blades since making the switch from Blackpool in 2014 and has gone on to make 200 starts for the Yorkshire outfit.
Should the Bramall Lane have any chance of making the Premier League next season, they will need to see the 30-year-old continue his fine form and will not want to see the defender leave the club in the summer on a free transfer.
