The Sheffield Wednesday fans here in the Transfer Tavern can’t believe just how poor they’ve been this season. Indeed, the Jos Luhukay experiment hasn’t worked at all and the resident Owls propping up our bar cannot wait for the campaign to end in order to look ahead to the summer.
With the Owls usually getting excited for the play-offs at this stage of the season, the punters clad in blue and white stripes are instead discussing potential summer transfer targets. Though there are a number of problems within the Owls’ ranks, one thing that is evident is the lack of a searingly quick winger in order to hit teams on the counter.
So, to that end, Wednesday could do a lot worse than moving for Hibernian star Martin Boyle. The 24-year-old excels as a right winger in either a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 set-up and can tear through teams both on the inside and out with his pace, helping create space for others.
The 24-year-old has had to wait a while to properly develop, though under Neil Lennon this season, has proven an effective outlet going forwards as well as someone who’ll track back, traits likely to make him a fan favourite at Hillsborough. Wednesday could really do with someone to get the fans off their seats and Boyle certainly could provide that in abundance, even if it is a major step-up in quality.
Valued at just £405k by Transfermarkt, Boyle would be a very astute addition to Sheffield Wednesday’s frontline next season.
