Our Sheffield Wednesday fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for a play-off challenge once again this season as they look to finally reach the Premier League.
The Owls have had a good crack at getting up in the past two years to only fall just short on both occasions and so now the plan is that they go further than that and get themselves promotion.
For sure, they know that every point matters in what is one of the most competitive divisions around and so they’ll be eager to bounce back from their opening day loss against Preston.
Certainly, then, it’s all eyes on the future and one particular nod to that has just come to light with The Star reporting that young Joe Wildsmith has signed a deal to keep him there for the next five years.
In that time, then, the goalkeeper will surely want to break into the first team and will also be eager to see that the side gets into the Premier League and stays there during that time.
It’s always important for a club to keep their best young stars for as long as possible and this long term deal for Wildsmith will surely enable them to do that.
Of course, if the club gets into the Premier League he will surely have to really step up his efforts to get into the side but, for now, he can knuckle down on making himself a Championship star.
