Wolverhampton Wanderers fans here in the Tavern will be hoping that their side can enjoy a successful first season back in the Premier League.
Wolves asserted their dominance on the Championship this season as they managed to secure promotion to the Premier League and the title. Although, the Midlands club couldn’t have done this without the brain power of Nuno Espirito Santo, as the 44-year-old managed to rally his troops to produce one of the most dominant Championship campaigns in recent years.
Of course, one man who will be absolutely delighted with the progress of the club is Wolves executive chairman Jeff Shi, as he may look to reward Santo with a marquee signing in the summer transfer window. And, if the club’s recent transfer window business is anything to go by, then you can expect another quality signing in the summer after witnessing Ruben Neves’ pure dominance this season.
With that in mind, here’s who our local punters think Shi should reward Santo with…
Sadly, Jack Butland was a very emotional figure when his current club Stoke City were relegated to the Championship recently, but this could open the door for Wolves to swoop in for his services in the summer transfer window.
Encouragingly, the 25-year-old could find himself playing for England in the World Cup next month after an impressive season at Stoke. The goalkeeper came to the Potters’ rescue on a number of occasions but not even he could save their season. Although, his efforts will more than likely earn him a future in the Premier League.
John Ruddy has been a pretty dominant figure for Wolves this season as he secured the Golden Glove in the Championship, but many of our local residents would argue that this is down to the club’s defenders, as the former Norwich shot-stopper made a number of unforced errors.
