The Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to Phil Hay’s column in the Yorkshire Evening Post where he discusses the role of Victor Orta after he turned down a job as Deportivo La Coruna’s sporting director last week. Instead, Orta has stuck with the devil that he knows at Elland Road as he looks to put right what went wrong last summer this time around.
This week's #lufc column, on Victor Orta – if Orta is staying, as he seems to be, he needs to change and Leeds United need to change:https://t.co/ClLh99k9DM

Orta has suffered this season, just like the fans and all those associated with the club. The Spaniard could have opted to jump ship and take on an easier life in his native Spain when Deportivo came calling but, bravely, Orta stuck with it at Leeds. Last summer was a complete disaster for the club, the Whites looked to sign players from cheaper markets in the hope of finding a rough diamond and ultimately, they fell flat.
This summer will have to be a success for Orta at Elland Road or he’ll be facing a timely exit as the fans will be aiming “I told you so’s” at their club. The Spaniard has got a couple of targets lined up for Paul Heckingbottom’s side, namely Jerry Mbakogu, a Nigerian striker currently plying his trade in Serie B for Parma. With the club targetting these sorts of players, they have to hit the ground running and become a quick success or they face the harsh reality of being a nothing man at a failing club.
Taking that into account, here’s our resident Whites’ verdict on Hay’s thoughts on Orta:
Lots of players of the free transfer list this summer, why not spend that 4 million on higher wages for these tried and tested players…?

Good article. If we go down the road of signing Jerry ?? from serieB then the club have learned nothing. It’s another blind gamble and frankly, them kind of deals have to stop. It’s ok them wanting to trim the squad but how do you do that with contracted players who don’t play?

Mbakogu will be a waste of money. We all know it will. The move to sign him Should hav been called off months ago.

Who’s in charge of orta? Bravo? And what’s vios role phil. Does PH just do their bidding?.

I know I've said this many times, but its not been an issue of quality really (barring poor GK recruitment), but more one of physical suitability. You can't have a team of midgets competing well in championship, it doesn't work. More muscle/height needed in summer.

Pleased with Hernandez & Pearce to sign new deal. However have reservations about Jerry & definitely not Pennington. We need a better quality cb. Start at the back

Quality not quantity needed. I don’t rate PH at all and wouldn’t trust him with any cash even if Orta makes the final decision. We’ve gone massively backwards since his appointment and he should be one of those we need to clear out.
