Derby County fans here in the Tavern are hoping that their side can secure promotion in the current campaign, as they will be gearing up for the Championship play-offs.
Gary Rowett has been unable to ensure consistency in the current campaign as his side threw away a promising position, with an automatic promotion place now turning into a less satisfying play-off place.
However, the Rams will be desperate to gain some momentum prior to the start of the play-offs, as they welcome relegation contenders Barnsley to Pride Park for tomorrow’s Championship fixture.
Indeed, after securing a 1-1 draw against fellow promotion hopefuls Aston Villa last time out, Rowett will need to change very little after being denied victory in the dying embers. Although, one minor change that he should make is to drop Tom Lawrence from the side, as the Welshman faded at Villa Park last time out and could do with some rest.
Therefore, Gary Rowett should think about dropping Lawrence from the side and giving Matej Vydra a place in the starting lineup. Here’s who our local punters think should get the nod…
The 26-year-old has been Derby County’s standout performer in the current campaign and will finish as their top scorer with 21 goals to his name thus far.
However, Gary Rowett has opted to bring the prolific striker off the substitutes’ bench in their last two Championship fixtures, so he could be set for a recall to try to discover some form before the start of the play-offs.
And, with Tom Lawrence needing some rest after a long period in the side, there’s no better replacement than the Czech Republic international, who has single-handedly fired the Rams towards the Premier League.
