It’s been a horrible end to the season for Leeds United who have slipped out of the Championship play-off places right at the death, much to the disgust of the Whites fans lining the bar here in the pub!
It had been an otherwise strong Championship campaign for Garry Monk and his players this season but they’ve fallen right at the death and the 3-3 draw against Norwich City this weekend means it will be second-tier football again next season.
And with young defender Charlie Taylor expected to leave the club this summer, Monk needs to start thinking about replacing him this summer and there’s one man our Whites fans here in the Tavern would love to see make the move to Elland Road.
The man in question? £1.28million-rated Middlesbrough defender George Friend, who has been excellent for Boro throughout the whole campaign.
Despite his team’s relegation concerns, the 29-year-old continues to impress in the first-team at the Riverside and he’s proven to be a solid and consistent option down the left-hand side since joining the club from Doncaster back in 2012.
But with relegation back into the Championship looking on the cards for Boro, Friend might fancy a change having been at the club for five years now and Leeds will almost certainly be looking to mount a push for promotion next season too.
It’s going to be a difficult choice for Friend come the end of the campaign but for Leeds, it seems like a no-brainer, especially if Taylor leaves over the coming months.
