Leeds United have made slow but steady progress in the transfer market so far this summer, but recent reports suggest the acquisition of a new wide player could be on the imminent horizon.
With the signatures of Lewis Baker and Jamal Blackman secured, it appears that the Whites will turn their attention away from Stamford Bridge in the coming days in order to secure the signature of a key target, namely Florian Jozefzoon.
The 27-year-old winger caught the eye last season on the right-side of Brentford’s midfield with his ability to drive at opponents with a direct style of dribbling.
Despite graduating from the world-renowned Ajax academy, Jozefzoon has struggled to reach the level that was expected of him during the early stages of his career, but his return of 7 goals and 7 assists from 39 Championship appearances last season suggests he has turned a corner in his development.
But it appears his time at Brentford will come to an end this summer now that the Bees have accepted an offer from an unnamed club for his services, according to the club’s official Twitter page.
According to Phil Hay at the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds, West Bromwich Albion and Derby are all interested in signing the Dutch attacker, but the latter may well have ruled themselves out of the race now that they have completed the signing of Harry Wilson.
With that to consider, it would appear that the Whites are left in a two-horse race with the Baggies to secure his signature this summer.
Of course, Leeds could well be the club whom have already had a bid accepted for Jozefzoon but, even if they are yet to table a bid, Brentford’s public admission suggests they have a perfect opportunity to bring him to Elland Road this summer.
With one year left on his contract, it would seem that Brentford are willing to cash in on Jozefzoon now rather than risk losing him for nothing next summer and, with Derby seemingly out of the running for his signature, Leeds are well-placed to secure their third signing of the summer in the coming days.
