The released Premier League defender who’d bring stability to newly-promoted Brighton

These are exciting times on the South Coast for Brighton, who secured their place in the Premier League thanks to a cracking season down in the Championship.

Chris Hughton’s men were superb in the second tier for the whole campaign as they kept pace with Newcastle throughout. Their supporters lining the bar here in the Tavern have been in an optimistic mood for the past couple of months now as they look forward to their debut in the top flight and they have every reason to be excited.

But moving forward, it’s clear that manager Hughton will need to make some additions to ensure his side have enough quality in their ranks for the upcoming campaign.

And one man we think would make an excellent signing over the summer months is former Hull City defender Alex Bruce, who has recently been released by his club.

Son of Aston Villa manager Steve, Alex has bags of experience at this level and whilst he might not be the most revered individual at this level, he’s a gritty individual who knows how to put a tackle in at the last minute.

Granted, he might not be displacing the likes of Dunk anytime soon, he’d be a superb squad player who knows how to step in when needs be.

He might have stayed on at Hull City if there hadn’t been so much managerial change but that hasn’t been the case and he now needs to find a new club.

But if Premier League newboys Brighton come knocking, it could be a deal that works out for both player and club.
