The announcement of Leeds United’s new badge has left the supporters completely bewildered in the Transfer Tavern.
Thomas Christiansen’s side have been in and around the play-offs all season, and they currently sit just 3 points adrift of 6th placed Sheffield United with just under half the season left to play. The Yorkshire giants have been out of the English top-flight since 2003, and the supporters would love nothing more than to make a famous return this season. The Peacocks season has been going fairly smoothly so far, but things have taken a slight downturn in recent weeks. However things have gone from bad to worse in Yorkshire due to events taking place away from the field.
Leeds United officially announced a new club crest yesterday, and the news has dominated the headlines in the last 24 hours for all the wrong reasons. Making such a big change to the club’s identity always poses a risk, and in the case of Leeds United, that risk has backfired in the worst possible manner.
The supporters have turned out in their numbers on Twitter to slate the new crest to the ends of the earth and back again, and it’s difficult to blame them. The crest is so disliked, that a petition has already been made with tens of thousands of signatures calling for the club to abandon their new design.
Considering the level of the backlash so far, it seems unlikely that Leeds will be able to go through with the proposed change, and the fans will certainly be hoping that’s the case judging by the reaction on Twitter.
Here’s what the supporters had to say about their club’s new badge…
It’s shockingly bad. #lufc you need to fight back against it. I’m up for evolution but that is awful. The worst, someone got paid money to do it! I’d do it for the Leeds Fans for free…

It’s just awful on every level. LUFC supporter for 50+ years. This is even worse than the smiley badge.

@andrearadri change the badge it's beyond a joke now. This is serious and the fans wasn't consulted how they should of been. Mediocre and made the club look like a joke

It looks like a 5 year old won a competition to design a badge #lufc

Dreadful who are the 10,000 fans consulted with the logo

Without wanting to sound like I'm over exaggerating, because I'm not, it's possibly the worst badge in world football.
