Tom Huddlestone deal makes perfect sense for West Brom

Tom Huddlestone deal makes perfect sense for West Brom - Championship

West Bromwich Albion have started the season in encouraging form under Darren Moore, with a 7-1 victory over QPR last weekend really setting the tone for what is shaping up to be a promising season for the Baggies.

With another round of Championship fixtures set to be played this evening, West Brom are sitting pretty in 3rd place after claiming 7 points from their opening 4 fixtures. But a positive opening should not cloud Moore’s judgement in the final days of the loan window, as there is still plenty of room for improvement throughout the squad, particularly in central midfield.

Jake Livermore and Chris Brunt have established a solid partnership in midfield so far this season, whilst Gareth Barry and James Morrison have been reduced to bit-part players.

Sam Field is another option to consider, but the quality of his performance at centre-back during West Brom’s Carabao Cup victory over Luton suggested that he may have an important defensive role to play as the season develops.

With that in mind, Moore should be considering the possibility of adding one more central midfielder to his ranks before the window slams shut, and a recent report from the Daily Mail suggests an ideal candidate could be available for transfer.

The player in question is Tom Huddlestone who appears to have fallen out of favour at Derby County since Frank Lampard took charge at the club.

According to the report, it is believed that Huddlestone doesn’t fit into Lampard’s high energy style and the 31-year-old is growing concerned that first-team opportunities could be at a premium this season.

But considering West Brom are lacking the presence of a natural ball-playing central midfield player, Huddlestone would be a shrewd addition to welcome to the Hawthorns.

With the ability to dictate proceedings from the middle of the park, Huddlestone would offer an extensive range of passing which the more defensive minded talents of Gareth Barry and Jake Livermore simply cannot offer.

It will be interesting to see if Lampard selects Huddlestone for Derby’s clash with Ipswich tonight after he was left out of the squad which travelled to Millwall last weekend as, if Huddlestone is omitted once again, the door will surely be open for Moore to sign the physically imposing playmaker before the end of the month.
