West Brom have had some highs this season, like the 7-1 dismantling of QPR, but they have also had some lows, like the opening day loss to last season's strugglers Bolton at The Hawthorns.

That is why the weekend's victory against Millwall at home pleased defender Kyle Bartley, and should fill fans of The Baggies with a lot of hope for their chances this season.

There is no point having those extravagant victories if they are cancelled out by dismal losses throughout the season. But to win in the style West Brom did at the weekend, shows a team that can earn victories in different ways.

Darren Moore's men faced a very dogged Millwall defence on Saturday which they found hard to break down. To come away with the victory, thanks to goals from Dwight Gayle and Kieran Gibbs, shows that they are not simply a flashy team, they can dig deep and grind out victories. This is the character that fans want to see from their teams, and is a sign that a club is going in the right direction. They had the teamwork and belief to pull through, and that will benefit them immensely throughout the season.

This is the mark of a true champion side, to win when they aren't playing particularly well, and with teams above them dropping points over the weekend, it shows the character that they have which some of their rivals may be lacking.

The Baggies moved into third place in the Championship with that win, only one point behind leaders Leeds and Middlesbrough.
