According to The Birmingham Mail, West Brom are braced for interest in star striker Jay Rodriguez in January from Premier League clubs.

The England forward was expected to leave The Baggies in the summer after they were relegated, but the club managed to keep hold of him.

Since the summer, Rodriguez has formed one of the best partnerships in the league with Dwight Gayle, as they have helped West Brom score the most goals in the Championship this season. Rodriguez and Gayle both have ten goals each, almost half of the club's 44 goals that they have scored this season.

This is just a brief indication of how important the former Southampton player is at The Hawthorns, and that it is imperative that he stays.

Unfortunately, the lure of Premier League football may be too much for the 29-year-old. The only thing that West Brom can do is entice him to stay with the prospect of promotion back to the top flight. With the one-cap England international on board, that is more than a possibility, however, should they lose him, their chances of promotion grow much slimmer.

At the age of 29, Rodriguez would feel that he still has a lot to give in the Premier League, and perhaps he is wasting his talents in the league below. He has already proven this season that he is maybe too good for the Championship, and will be desperate to move back up.

This is the problem that West Brom face; knowing that Rodriguez will want to play in the Premier League, but knowing that they cannot get there without him. They just need him to wait a few more months, and he can be back to where he wants to be.
