West Brom manager Darren Moore has been trying out a new system at the club this season, with varying success.
He has lined up with three centre backs and has used wing backs, in what is an increasingly popular formation. This requires the centre backs to be comfortable on the ball, as they will see a lot of it.
Unfortunately for The Baggies, their back three looked less than convincing against Birmingham on Friday. Craig Dawson, Kyle Bartley and Ahmed Hegazy were sloppy in possession at St Andrew’s, frequently giving the ball away. The side need another defender to come in that is much more comfortable in possession, taking the strain off of his other two defenders. None of them looked assured at the back, and anyone could be dropped for tonight’s match at the Hawthorns.
That is why Tosin Adarabioyo must return to the starting XI. The Man City loan has featured consistently throughout the season for Darren Moore, but has not started in the last two Championship games against Birmingham and Stoke.
Adarabioyo (valued at £900k on Transfermarkt.co.uk) looks to be very comfortable and composed on the ball, and while he is certainly not the finished article at 20-years-old, he will provide something different to the West Brom defence.
Plus, having two other centre backs alongside him, they can cover for any potential defensive deficiencies that he may show.
The Baggies host high-flying Bristol tonight, with a win potentially firing The Baggies into the top six of the Championship.Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
