West Brom proving they must keep hold of Barnes to save their season

It was all looking very rosy for West Brom at the beginning of the month, but things are starting to fall apart at The Hawthorns.

Darren Moore’s men were sitting at the top of the Championship when it turned October, and were demolishing teams left, right, and centre. Now the picture doesn’t look as pretty.

They have now lost two on the bounce, and their ability to score goals at will has diminished somewhat. Yesterday’s thrashing by Derby was probably the club’s lowest point this season, and they must bounce back. Despite only winning one game so far this month, they are still in fourth place in the league, and only two points behind leaders Leeds. But Darren Moore must stop the rot fast.

Over their last two losses against The Rams and Wigan, West Brom’s best player has probably been Harvey Barnes. That was certainly the case against Wigan, and he grew into the game against Derby, as he constantly looked to be a creative threat. The trouble is that he has been linked with a move back to parent club Leicester in January.

While sending Barnes back to Leicester may have seemed manageable at the beginning of the month to The Baggies’ fans, with James Morrison, Wes Hoolahan, and even Jay Rodriguez capable of replacing him, it has now become apparent how much they need him.

In order to return to their free flowing scoring, Barnes will be fundamental to Moore’s men, as he is already one of the club’s most crucial players at the age of 20. There is not much doubting that The Baggies will turn their form around quickly, but if they were to lose Barnes in January, the wheels may fall off again, and that time it may not be as easy to fix.
