West Brom should capitalise on Giannelli Imbula’s availability with a shrewd loan deal

Darren Moore has the notoriously difficult task of taking the Baggies back into the Premier League at the first time of asking this season, and so far his side have shown some early promise.

However, it’s clear that the level of strength in depth is below the level where it needs to be if the club wish to be in the mix for a playoff place or, better still, an automatic promotion place come the end of the season.

With that in mind, the remainder of the loan window represents a crucial time period for the club in which they need to add quality players to their squad, and a recent report from the Daily Telegraph suggests that they have an ideal opportunity to sign a player who has struggled to impress since arriving in english football, namely Giannelli Imbula.

According to the report, Imbula is surplus to requirements and free to leave before the end of the window despite the fact he was able to establish himself  a first-team regular at Toulouse last season in Ligue 1.

Imbula arrived at the Potters for a huge fee of £18.3 million in February 2016, but unfortunately his performances have not reflected the enormity of his price tag.

However, it’s clear from Imbula’s technical ability and physical presence that he could become a success in the Championship within the right environment and tactical system, so Darren Moore should give him a chance to resurrect his career next season.

The Baggies are short of options in central midfield to the extent in which Chris Brunt has been deployed in unfamiliar territory to make up for the shortage, so signing Imbula on a season-long loan deal would help them to combat their midfield problem.

It’s fair to say that Imbula’s true quality has not surfaced since he moved to Stoke, but if he is able to rediscover the form which earned him such a glowing reputation at Porto then there’s no doubt his presence would give West Brom a significant boost in their bid to return to the top-flight.

West Brom supporters may well have their doubts about Imbula, but there’s no doubt a season-long loan deal is a risk worth taking for the club.
