According to a recent report from The London Evening Standard, Georges-Kevin N’Koudou has been deemed a ‘surplus to requirements’ at Tottenham. The 23-year-old winger made the move to North London back in 2016 but has since struggled to force his way into Mauricio Pochettino’s first team, to the point that he was shipped out on loan to Burnley in the second half of last season.

And with the Frenchman now reportedly a ‘surplus to requirements’ at Spurs, his future appears to be away from the club, which should be of interest to West Brom manager Darren Moore as he seeks to enhance his side’s Championship promotion credentials.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, the Baggies will be seeking an immediate return to the Premier League this term following their somewhat surprising relegation last time round, what with the Midlands club finishing bottom of the division to end their eight-year stay in the top tier.

And new manager Moore has already been busy bringing in some shrewd additions to his squad, most notably in the form of goalkeeper Sam Johnstone and centre back Kyle Bartley, yet further attacking reinforcements may be need to compensate for the departure of James McClean, who left for Stoke City earlier in the window - N’Koudou could be that man.

The 23-year-old may well have struggled for regular football at Tottenham in the last few years, but there’s a reason Pochettino and the club’s hierarchy spent £11 million on the winger back in 2016 - he clearly has both ability and indeed potential.

But playing irregularly is not going to allow N’Koudou to fulfil that potential, and he was even unable to command regular football on loan at Sean Dyche’s Burnley last season to suggest that dropping down to the Championship may be in his best interests.

And having produced the goods for Marseille back in the 2015/16 season, having netted ten goals and laid on five assists in all competitions, the Frenchman could well add a great deal of quality to the West Brom attacking ranks, and thus give Moore another solid and accomplished option from which to choose from.

And in the long, hard slog that is a Championship season, strength in depth is needed, so even if N’Koudou doesn’t command regular football straight away at the Hawthorns, he will certainly be used more frequently there than under Pochettino at Tottenham.

Thus, with the Frenchman reportedly a ‘surplus to requirements’, West Brom must seek to make a move for the £6.3 million-rated star (as per Transfermarkt) in a bid to enhance their promotion credentials.
