What does the future hold for Bailey Peacock-Farrell?

Leeds United made it three wins in three after snatching a victory against Sheffield United on Saturday to keep up the pressure on Norwich City in first place.

Under Marcelo Bielsa, Leeds have been completely transformed and have become one of the best sides in the league this season. Moreover, the Argentine has turned the likes of Kemar Roofe, Kalvin Phillips and Luke Ayling into some of the best players in their respective positions.

Furthermore, as a result of the multiple injuries that have occurred over the season, Bielsa has had to lean on the youth academy and has called in the likes of Jack Clarke, Aapo Halme and Tyler Roberts to bolster the first-team squad.

One player that has made the step up from the Thorp Arch academy to the first-team is goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell. The 22-year-old had received a lot of criticism for some of his performances this season and if not for the injury to Jamal Blackman, Peacock-Farrell may well have lost his place in the side.

Peacock-Farrell broke into the first-team last season and played 11 games for the side. This year, Bielsa has continued with the young goalkeeper in goal and despite Leeds storming to the top of the table, Peacock-Farrell hasn’t always been a reliable player for the side.

Against Wigan and West Brom, the academy graduate was quite poor and such were his shaky performances that Bielsa admitted that if Blackman hadn’t picked up an injury in an under-23 side, he would’ve played against Bristol City.

Peacock-Farrell missed the game through injury and despite the threat that he would’ve been dropped, the young goalkeeper has put in two superb performances over the last two games. He saved a penalty against Reading to snatch the three points for Leeds in what was probably his best performance of the season. He had a solid game against Sheffield United at the weekend too and it seems that he may have come out of his period of poor form a better player.

With the January window approaching, a lot of Leeds fans will still be looking for the club to sign a new goalkeeper but with the academy man putting in two superb games, the speculation surrounding Peacock-Farrell’s future should now be over and Bielsa must stick with the youngster.
