The Newcastle United fans who’ve popped into the Transfer Tavern en route for their long trip down to Brighton and Hove Albion in perhaps the biggest game of the Championship thus far have nervous looks on their faces.
While the Toon Army boast an impressive away record this season under Rafa Benitez, it’s a top of the table clash and it’s fair to say the Magpies haven’t hit top gear for a while now. The Seagulls have looked strong for much of the campaign and head into tonight’s game atop the Sky Bet Championship.
Still, the Tyneside drinkers don’t agree with Sky Sports pundit David Prutton’s prediction. Writing in his blog on their website, the former Southampton midfielder states he believes the home side will come out on top, largely down to the absence of Dwight Gayle for those in black and white.
The Championship’s top scorer missed the draw with Bristol City and, while his hamstring injury looks better than expected, he won’t be in action this evening.
”It’s all set to be a really close match at the Amex but I think Brighton have the edge. Their attacking players have been in the goals recently while Newcastle will be missing Dwight Gayle”, he writes.
”You worry about Newcastle when he’s not in the team.”
