Frank Lampard kicked off his reign as Derby County manager with a victory over Reading.

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson opened the scoring in the second-half before loan signing Mason Mount netted the equaliser – his first goal for the club since joining from Chelsea. Harry Wilson should have grabbed all three points, but the Liverpool youngster was denied by Vito Mannone. The Italian could do nothing to prevent Tom Lawrence netting an incredible 94th-minute winner to hand Lampard his first win in senior management.

However, their mauling at the hands of Leeds United has significantly dampened expectations.

Still, the Chelsea legend has made some astute signings as he looks to return Derby to the Premier League for the first time since 2008. The transfer window is now closed, but EFL clubs can still sign players on loan until the end of August. Lampard should use his excellent relationship with Manchester City for his next signing.

A great addition to the squad could be City youngster – Oleksandr Zinchenko. Valued at £6.3m by Transfermarkt, the Ukrainian joined the Citizens from Ufa back in 2016 but was immediately loaned to PSV Eindhoven. He returned to City and featured eight times under Pep Guardiola last season but was almost sold to Wolves on deadline day before the move collapsed.

Zinchenko wants to fight for his place at City but game time will be limited next season with Benjamin Mendy returning to full fitness. A loan move may be best for his development and working with Lampard would be a smart move.

The 21-year-old can play in midfield or a left-back making him a useful option for the former England international. The Ukrainian has pace and excellent technical ability as well as a sweet left foot. He would be an excellent signing for the Rams.
