# Tighten up: The defender Chelsea need to be signing this summer

**Chelsea will be looking to get to the summer and commence something of an overhaul at the club, with manager Antonio Conte visibly not happy with his squad at times during the course of this campaign.**

The Blues have fallen short in their quest to retain the Premier League by quite some distance, although they did indeed seal a place in the FA Cup final last weekend with a comfortable win over Southampton at Wembley.

Our punters here in the Tavern think that the Blues need some new blood, especially in defence, where an ageing Gary Cahill has struggled somewhat since John Terry’s departure, and David Luiz appears to be on his way out of the club once again.

The landlord here agrees with this fact, and he thinks there are some defenders out there who really should be on the radar at Stamford Bridge as potential summer signings.

With that in mind, we’ve identified the one defender we think Chelsea should be going all out to sign this summer.

## Sergio Ramos

What better way to improve your defence than signing Real Madrid and Spain legend, Sergio Ramos?

The Spaniard has been simply superb for over a decade now, and has become the heart and soul of a Madrid team who have enjoyed immense success in the Champions League in recent years, with the club looking to make it three in a row this term.

Ramos oozes class, and while he might be a hot head and not the youngest anymore, he is still a defender of world class ability, and someone who can walk into any team in the world.

Chelsea need a star in their defence, and Ramos fits the bill perfectly.
