# Tottenham: Christian Eriksen attracting ‘strong’ interest from Inter

**Serie A club Inter have reportedly signalled their intentions to try and sign Tottenham playmaker Christian Eriksen on a free transfer next summer.**

[Tuttomercatoweb](https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/tmw-inter-forte-su-eriksen-a-zero-le-cifre-c-e-anche-il-psg-1322561) reported \[[via Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/club-strong-tottenham-player-details-transfer-proposal-explained/)\] that the Milan-based club are “strong” on the 27-year-old, whose contract at Spurs is set to expire at the end of this season.

According to [Tuttomercatoweb](https://www.tuttomercatoweb.com/serie-a/tmw-inter-forte-su-eriksen-a-zero-le-cifre-c-e-anche-il-psg-1322561), Inter are prepared to offer the Denmark international a four-year deal worth €8m (£6.73m) per annum, the same wage as what they are currently paying to Romelu Lukaku, and are aiming to sign him on a free transfer after his Tottenham contract runs out.

Four days after Tottenham lost the Champions League final last June, Eriksen gave an interview to Danish publication [Ekstra Bladet](https://ekstrabladet.dk/sport/fodbold/udenlandsk_fodbold/engelsk_fodbold/PremierLeague/nu-taler-eriksen-om-fremtiden-jeg-vil-proeve-noget-nyt/7661012) in which he said that he “might like to try something new”, strongly hinting at a desire to leave the north London club.

Having [started 23 or more Premier League games](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/69344/History/Christian-Eriksen) in each of his previous six seasons with Spurs, the Dane has been in the starting line-up for just [seven of their 15 league matches](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-eriksen/leistungsdaten/spieler/69633) so far this term and [none of the three](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-eriksen/leistungsdaten/spieler/69633) since [Jose Mourinho replaced Mauricio Pochettino](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2019/nov/20/tottenham-hotspur-jose-mourinho-named-new-manager-of-spurs) during the November international break.

He has also been a bit-part player in their Champions League campaign thus far, with his [only start in five group games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-eriksen/leistungsdaten/spieler/69633) coming in their opener against Olympiakos in September. By contrast, he started [11 of their 13 matches](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-eriksen/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/69633/plus/0/saison/2018/wettbewerb/CL/verein/148) in their run to the final of the tournament last season.

Even when Eriksen has played recently, he hasn’t been hugely effective, with just [two goals and two assists from 959 minutes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-eriksen/leistungsdaten/spieler/69633) of action so far in 2019/20 (one of each per 479.5 minutes). Last season he [scored 10 goals and set up 17 in 4,129 minutes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-eriksen/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/69633) of action, an average of one goal per 412.9 minutes and an assist every 242.89 minutes.

It is not just in terms of goal involvement that Eriksen’s standards have dropped from last season, either – he has averaged just 1.3 shots and 1.3 key passes per game in the Premier League this term, a sharp decline on his match averages of 2.4 shots and 2.1 key passes in 2018/19. \[[via WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/69344/History/Christian-Eriksen)\]

While the Dane has yet to start under Mourinho, fellow attacking midfielder Dele Alli has thrived since the ex-Chelsea manager took charge, with [four goals in as many games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dele-alli/leistungsdaten/spieler/207929) since Pochettino was sacked.

Although Tottenham are running increasingly closer to the risk of losing Eriksen for nothing next summer, right now it is difficult to see him having a key role at the club given his struggles and the revival of Alli, so it would not seem hugely surprising if Inter were to get him on a free in 2020.
