# Tottenham Hotspur: Eric Dier yet to be offered a new deal by Spurs

**Tottenham Hotspur have made a promising start to life after lockdown since the Premier League returned behind closed doors earlier this month.**

Spurs followed up a hard-fought draw with Manchester United by beating West Ham to pick up their first win in eight games ([BBC](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/51866058)).

After conceding the penalty against the Red Devils, [Eric Dier](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/tottenhams-eric-dier-pleased-jose-18502418) was part of the side that kept a clean sheet in the 2-0 victory over the Hammers.

Jose Mourinho praised the Englishman for his hard work in an interview with [the club’s official website](https://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/2020/june/jose-on-dier/), saying: “Eric is playing really well and adapting very well to a position that he thinks, and personally I also think, is a great position for him.”

However, the Lilywhites still haven’t offered Dier a new deal, although this should not be a cause for concern. According to [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/1895584/2020/06/29/eric-dier-tottenham-mourinho-levy-vertonghen/), the 26-year-old wants to stay at Spurs and he is building a strong relationship with Mourinho.

Moreover, the club are confident that he will sign an extension in the summer, as per [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-tottenham-confident-of-agreeing-new-deal-with-senior-star/). A source told [the outlet](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-tottenham-confident-of-agreeing-new-deal-with-senior-star/) that early indications suggest both sides will be able to reach an agreement in a matter of weeks.

Dier, who was a favourite of [Mauricio Pochettino](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mauricio-pochettino/eingesetzteSpieler/trainer/9044), has played 16 games in the Premier League this season, supplying two assists, making 1.2 tackles and averaging 3.1 clearances per game (via [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/117973/Show/Eric-Dier)).

The England international has had quite [a roller-coaster of a career](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/eric-dier-facing-crossroads-tottenham-18326354) during his time in north London so far, as he has been plagued by [multiple injuries, illness and mixed form](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-tottenham-confident-of-agreeing-new-deal-with-senior-star/) over the years.

Nevertheless, he believes he can flourish in the defence under [the Portuguese](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/tottenhams-eric-dier-pleased-jose-18502418) and intends to establish himself as a regular in the starting lineup. Dier can play in a variety of [positions](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/117973/Show/Eric-Dier) and it is his versatility which arguably makes him most useful, as it earned him four consecutive starts in a row and [praise from Mourinho](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/eric-dier-facing-crossroads-tottenham-18326354).

While Spurs are still waiting to find out if he will be banned for allegedly bringing the game into disrepute ([The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/11778202/tottenham-dele-alli-ban-coronavirus-video/)), he will be looking to consolidate his position in the busy schedule ahead.
