# Tottenham Hotspur: Club eye loan move for Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster

**According to a report from [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-tottenham-plot-unexpected-swoop-for-liverpool-player-whos-dazzled-this-year/), Tottenham are planning one of the surprise deals of the summer in the form of a loan move for Liverpool striker Rhian Brewster – with chairman Daniel Levy keen on adding a back-up to Harry Kane ahead of the 2020/2021 season.**

Jose Mourinho tends to his first full campaign in charge of Spurs soon, and the Portuguese serial winner will need to strengthen his squad if he hopes to challenge for a Champions League place.

So far, Levy has been busy in the transfer market, signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in a £15 million deal alongside free agent keeper Joe Hart ([Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/12051534/joe-hart-tottenham-sign-former-england-man-city-and-burnley-goalkeeper)) – both of whom Mourinho appears to believe are worthy additions.

The latter man seemed to [surprise a few critics](https://footballinside.net/2020/08/18/joe-hart-completes-surprising-move-to-tottenham-hotspur/), but Football Insider have added that Spurs are also looking at a loan move for Reds youngster Brewster.

Described as an ‘[exceptional](https://www.planetfootball.com/quick-reads/just-exceptional-the-best-quotes-about-liverpool-hope-rhian-brewster/)‘ 20-year-old up-and-coming talent, Brewster netted an impressive 11 goals across his senior appearances last campaign – with each of them coming in the Championship for Swansea City ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/336285/Show/Rhian-Brewster)).

Upon seeing his red hot form in England’s second tier, Levy is reportedly contemplating Brewster who could serve as a capable stand-in for Kane.

Operating with a limited transfer kitty, as detailed through [the Athletic’s story](https://theathletic.co.uk/1849915/2020/06/04/tottenham-hotspur-loan-government-cashflow-coronavirus/) on Spurs’ financial woes, it is debatable whether a move for Brewster would be worth the effort.

The Englishman managed an impressive [2.5 shots per 90](https://theathletic.co.uk/1849915/2020/06/04/tottenham-hotspur-loan-government-cashflow-coronavirus/) last season at the Liberty Stadium – better numbers than the likes of [Dele Alli and Lucas Moura.](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/30/Show/England-Tottenham)

However, you could also make the argument he was plying his trade in a weaker all-round division.

Whether or not Spurs do swoop for Brewster remains to be seen, but there are positives and negatives to consider.
