# Tottenham: Fabrizio Romano drops Gabriel Jesus claim

**Reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has shared the latest news regarding [Tottenham Hotspur](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/)’s interest in Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus.**

### **The Lowdown: Jesus set to leave**

Romano has [previously reported](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1517760683663896577) that the Brazil international is set to leave Man City this summer, following the arrivals of [Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund and Julian Alvarez from River Plate.](https://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/arsenal/transfer-talk/news/gabriel-jesus-will-leave-man-city-this-summer_484080.html)

It is understood that City have planned for the 25-year-old’s departure over the [past few months](https://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/arsenal/transfer-talk/news/gabriel-jesus-will-leave-man-city-this-summer_484080.html), with [Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side](https://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/arsenal/transfer-talk/news/gabriel-jesus-will-leave-man-city-this-summer_484080.html) keen on recruiting the forward this summer.

Jesus, who can play [anywhere](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gabriel-jesus/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/363205) across a front three, has an impressive record in the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) for the Sky Blues, given his 58 goals in 159 games, with 60 of those appearances as a substitute (via [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gabriel-jesus/leistungsdaten/spieler/363205/saison/ges/plus/1#gesamt)).

### **The Latest: Romano’s news**

Romano has now shared a fresh update on Jesus’ transfer situation, amongst rumours of a potential number of suitors.

Taking to an interview on [YouTube](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_h9NlZ7TSXg) with Chris Cowlin, Romano claimed (via a transcript on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/ChrisCowlin/status/1533803894182227968)):

“No bid from Spurs as yet, but there is contact between the clubs. Arsenal are leading the race. Spurs have had contact with his agent. He wants to be a key player at his next club.”

### **The Verdict: Versatile squad depth**

Following the arrival of [Dejan Kulusevski in January](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/dejan-kulusevski/profil/spieler/431755), Antonio Conte’s first XI attacking options going forward can now compete with some of the best in Europe, with the 22-year-old joining Harry Kane and Heung-min Son in Spurs’ front-line.

Hailed as an [‘unsung hero’](https://www.mancity.com/citytv/mens/manchester-city-4-1-wolves-pep-guardiola-post-match-press-conference-63750320) by Guardiola, Jesus could be competing with Kane for the out-an-out striker role if he were to join the North London club and therefore provide the depth behind that front three Conte is currently lacking.

The Brazilian could also battle with Kulusevski for the right-wing starting spot, having played there for Guardiola [15](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gabriel-jesus/leistungsdaten/spieler/363205) times this season, and even rotate in on the left when needed, scoring [12](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/gabriel-jesus/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/363205) times from the left wing position in his career.
