# Tottenham: Fans react to Mourinho’s comments about Japhet Tanganga in training

**Jose Mourinho has been heard talking up young defender Japhet Tanganga during his first training session with Tottenham.**

The 20-year-old centre-half enjoyed a [solid pre-season](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/japhet-tanganga-debut-tottenham-news-16976766) with Spurs but has been used only [once](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/japhet-tanganga/profil/spieler/346478) by the north London club this term – during the EFL Cup defeat to Colchester – despite training with the first-team squad all season.

With Tottenham’s inability to keep a [clean sheet](https://uk.soccerway.com/teams/england/tottenham-hotspur-football-club/675/) this term, it is somewhat surprising that Tanganga was overlooked so much by ex-manager Mauricio Pochettino.

However, now there is a new man in the hot seat, Tanganga will be hoping that his chances of first-team football will be increased. And, if this video is anything to go by, that could well be the case.

Mourinho can be heard telling one of his new Tottenham coaches: ‘He marked Cristiano Ronaldo, make him known’ before pointing to the England Under-20 international. Promising signs for the youngster.

Here’s how some Tottenham fans reacted to the clip on Twitter:

> Must be a great feeling for tanganga to have Mourinho come up to him and make him feel like a world class player with one sentence!

> That kind of detail is why they pay him the big bucks.\
> He did that for an effect in front of all the senior players. That’s what I know about him, so just think what I know about you.

> Tanganga was solid pre season. Given our run, he should be chucked in. See if he holds up
