# Tottenham Hotspur: Alasdair Gold gives update on Spurs transfer target; could be good news for Harry Kane

**According to [football.london](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/tottenham-behind-scenes-coutinho-hojbjerg-18419968), Tottenham Hotspur will once again consider signing Artem Dzyuba in the summer.**

Dzyuba’s contract with Zenit St Petersburg is set to expire in [June](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/artem-dzyuba/profil/spieler/48067), and Tottenham have been interested in the Russian before.

After Harry Kane sustained a [hamstring injury](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/52487767), Spurs reached out to the striker in [January](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/dzyuba-tottenham-talks-failed-january-transfer/5adcbckgmxso1s31qaoti9pty), but Zenit refused to let him leave. He is currently valued at £11.7m via [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/artem-dzyuba/profil/spieler/48067).

However, Dzyuba will become a free agent at the end of the month, and [Alasdair Gold](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/tottenham-behind-scenes-coutinho-hojbjerg-18419968) revealed the club will be interested in bringing him to north London.

Jose Mourinho is itching to find [a backup](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1289882/Tottenham-transfer-news-Harry-Kane-Joshua-King-Bournemouth) for Kane, as the Spurs talisman hasn’t played a competitive match since [New Year’s Day](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8418153/Kanes-able-Tottenham-Hotspurs-star-striker-Harry-Kane-fully-fit.html).

Having returned to Zenit St Petersburg in [2018](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/artem-dzyuba/profil/spieler/48067), the Russia international has scored 13 goals and created 9 assists in 21 games in the Russian Premier League, taking 3 shots and averaging 2.1 key passes per game (via [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/23246/Show/Artem-Dzyuba)). He stands at 196cm tall and is an obvious [set-piece threat](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/23246/Show/Artem-Dzyuba).

[\[freshpress-poll id=”304370″\]](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/[freshpress-poll%20id=%22304370%22])

Indeed, it could be argued that the [big Russian](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/tottenham-behind-scenes-coutinho-hojbjerg-18419968) is the [ideal Mourinho frontman](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/tottenham-transfer-news-vedat-muriqi-18236361). The Portuguese famously deployed [Didier Drogba and Diego Costa](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jose-mourinho/eingesetzteSpieler/trainer/781) to terrorise the opposition during his spells in charge of Chelsea, as both players relied on their physical presence to bully defences, and Dzyuba plays in a similar way. [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/23246/Show/Artem-Dzyuba) notes Aerial Duels are one of his key strengths.

Despite his age, the 31-year-old has shown no signs of slowing down anytime soon, and his ability to out-muscle defenders sets him apart from some of his counterparts, including the Lilywhites’ other targets like [Loren Moron](https://www.larazon.es/laotraliga/20200315/dp7musrnibdfdf24bz33azv6li.html) and [M’Baye Niang](https://www.90min.com/posts/spurs-interested-in-rennes-striker-m-baye-niang-as-harry-kane-backup-01e9t7cta5pg).

As it stands, Dzyuba would be a shrewd signing to make, as he would be the perfect substitute for Kane, and he will also be available for free. Furthermore, he could become Mourinho’s new Drogba if he moves to north London in the future, as he even has a similar playing style as previously mentioned.
