# Tottenham Hotspur: Alasdair Gold says Erik Lamela ‘could be sold’ this summer

**Writing on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/AlasdairGold/status/1396856892064944131), sharing his piece for [football.london](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/seven-players-who-could-leave-20665063), reliable correspondent Alasdair Gold has listed the Tottenham Hotspur players who ‘[could be sold](https://twitter.com/AlasdairGold/status/1396856892064944131)‘ this summer as part of a rebuild – with winger Erik Lamela making the list.**

### The Lowdown: Servant to Spurs…

Lamela signed for Spurs as a member of ‘[The Magnificent Seven](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/seven-players-who-could-leave-20665063)‘ brought in to replace Gareth Bale after he completed his sensational [£85 million move](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/23538218) to Spanish giants Real Madrid in 2013.

Since then, the Argentine has stood out as the longest serving member of that player influx and has gone to make 257 appearances for Spurs in all competitions ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erik-lamela/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/111630)).

He has scored 37 goals and has assisted his teammates 47 times over this period ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erik-lamela/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/111630)), but a combination of [disciplinary issues](https://www.espn.com/soccer/story/2863898/tottenhams-mousa-dembele-and-erik-lamela-could-face-fa-action) and a[poor injury record](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erik-lamela/verletzungen/spieler/111630) have somewhat marred his stay in north London.

### The Latest: Lamela ‘could be sold’…

Spurs need to adopt a sell-to-buy policy in a difficult market, especially considering their [documented financial troubles](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-financial-results-daniel-levy-b77059.html), and Gold has revealed that Lamela ‘could be sold’ this summer.

Dele Alli, Lucas Moura, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Moussa Sissoko, Juan Foyth, Harry Winks, Serge Aurier and a centre-back could also be offloaded, according to the [football.london journalist.](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/seven-players-who-could-leave-20665063)

Lamela is apparently a ‘[popular figure](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/seven-players-who-could-leave-20665063)‘ within Tottenham and ‘[loves](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/seven-players-who-could-leave-20665063)‘ the club himself, but his [fairly lofty salary](https://www.spotrac.com/epl/tottenham-hotspur-fc/erik-lamela-23034/#:~:text=Erik%20Lamela%20signed%20a%204,cap%20hit%20of%20%C2%A34%2C160%2C000.) combined with a [lack of Premier League starts this season](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/75830/Show/Erik-Lamela) could mean his eight-year stay in the English capital may be coming to an end.

### The Verdict: Time to go…

There have been points over 2020/2021 where Lamela showcased his true quality, most notably the [sensational rabona](https://www.theguardian.com/football/live/2021/mar/14/arsenal-v-tottenham-premier-league-live) against Arsenal during Spurs’ 2-1 north London derby loss.

However, during that same game, the 29-year-old was [sent off for a second yellow card](https://www.theguardian.com/football/live/2021/mar/14/arsenal-v-tottenham-premier-league-live) after aggressively fending off Kieran Tierney – perhaps summing up his Tottenham career overall.

It’s no doubt that the Argentine can turn it on, as evident by former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson calling him a ‘fantastic player’ earlier this season ([Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/tottenham-tipped-to-u-turn-on-lamela-exit-after-sensational-events-robinson/)), but it may be time for Lamela to be shown the door.
