# Tottenham Hotspur: Arsenal striker Pierre-Emile Aubameyang ‘looked at’ by Spurs and Daniel Levy

**According to a report by reliable Spurs correspondent[Charlie Eccleshare](https://theathletic.co.uk/2054257/2020/09/10/tottenham-hotspur-back-up-striker-harry-kane-signing/), Arsenal striker and Premier League star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was in fact being ‘[looked at’](https://theathletic.co.uk/2054257/2020/09/10/tottenham-hotspur-back-up-striker-harry-kane-signing/) and considered by Tottenham before chairman Daniel Levy opted not to go through with a move.**

Aubameyang, who has gone on to star for the club’s rivals ever since a [£56 million move](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42859716) from Borussia Dortmund back in January 2018, could have been a Spurs player if Levy followed through on his perceived interest, as per [the Athletic.](https://theathletic.co.uk/2054257/2020/09/10/tottenham-hotspur-back-up-striker-harry-kane-signing/)

As Tottenham scour the market for a capable back-up to Kane, being linked with the likes of Habib Diallo, Arkadiusz Milik and, recently, Patson Daka ([football.london](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/tottenham-striker-transfer-milik-daka-18907884)), Levy felt a past swoop for Aubameyang was too far out of the Lilywhites’ price range at the time – especially considering they already had an ‘[elite](https://theathletic.co.uk/2054257/2020/09/10/tottenham-hotspur-back-up-striker-harry-kane-signing/)‘ forward.

Fast forward to now, and one of Spurs’ [top priorities for the window](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/tottenham-striker-transfer-milik-daka-18907884) is signing an attacker to provide much-needed strength and depth in that area – potentially leaving critics to wonder what might have been if the club decided to invest in the Gabon international.

Hailed as ‘[world class](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1312533/Arsenal-news-Mikel-Arteta-Stan-Kroenke-transfer-latest)‘ by Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp, Aubameyang has been lighting up England’s top flight since signing for Arsenal – scoring 71 goals in 110 appearances ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/pierre-emerick-aubameyang/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/58864)).

Indeed, the [£198,000-per-week ace](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/6268045/arsenal-aubameyang-wage-bonuses/) has been somewhat of a revelation, and a player who was hailed for his ‘[genius](https://www.goal.com/en-ie/news/pierre-emerick-aubameyang-mourinho-hails-genius-movement/a25njf76xf4g1ukxq9ihvsttw)‘ movement by none other than Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho.

Given Spurs’ struggle to find a new forward to partner Kane so far, supporters may be wondering what might have been had Levy followed through on this past interest.
