# Tottenham Hotspur: Brendan Rodgers ‘held in high regard’ by those within Spurs

**According to a report by reliable [football.london](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/jose-mourinho-daniel-levy-tottenham-20407649) correspondent Alasdair Gold, backing up [previous claims](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/julian-nagelsmann-offered-tottenham-brendan-23553018), Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers is ‘held in high regard’ by some Tottenham Hotspur chiefs as a possible replacement for the under-fire Jose Mourinho.**

### Tottenham chiefs still eyeing Rodgers

Rodgers has been [previously linked](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/julian-nagelsmann-offered-tottenham-brendan-23553018) to the Tottenham job as pressure grows on Mourinho following a string of poor results, including a humiliating Europa League exit at the hands of [Dinamo Zagreb last month.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7b9g4wlI9kE&feature=onebox)

Providing the latest on the managerial situation, Gold has claimed that there is a ‘[growing belief](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/jose-mourinho-daniel-levy-tottenham-20407649)‘ that the Portuguese won’t be in charge at Spurs next season, subsequently listing the two most likely managers as candidates to possibly replace him.

Backing up previous claims, [football.london](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/jose-mourinho-daniel-levy-tottenham-20407649) reported that Rodgers is still held in high regard by some Tottenham chiefs within the club alongside RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann.

### Transfer Tavern take

Hailed as an ‘elite manager’ who could ‘manage any team in Europe’ by Robbie Savage on BT Sport recently (via [Daily Mail)](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9257179/Robbie-Savage-hails-elite-manager-Brendan-Rodgers-taking-Leicester-second-table.html), Rodgers was also allegedly ‘very keen’ to join Spurs back in 2012 according to [Football Insider.](https://www.footballinsider247.com/tottenham-rodgers-top-contender-manager/) However, Liverpool [made a formal approach first](https://www.footballinsider247.com/tottenham-rodgers-top-contender-manager/) and Rodgers opted to take over at Anfield instead.

While Rodgers has strong credentials ([domestic dominance](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/55416698) at Celtic, establishing Leicester in the [Premier League top five](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/brendan-rodgers/leistungsdatenLigenNational/trainer/1366)), we believe that Nagelsmann should be first and foremost the top managerial priority if Mourinho is sacked.

At the tender age of 33, the German has already overseen [224 top-level matches](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/julian-nagelsmann/stationen/trainer/8402) with Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig, taking the former [into the Champions League](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/julian-nagelsmann/leistungsdatenInternational/trainer/8402) and the latter to the [semi-finals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/julian-nagelsmann/leistungsdatenInternational/trainer/8402) of that tournament along with [challenging](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/bundesliga/tabelle/wettbewerb/L1/saison_id/2020) Bayern Munich’s Bundesliga dominance.

He has been described as the [most exciting coaching talent](https://www.goal.com/en/news/nagelsmann-europes-most-exciting-coach-better-tactically/v87r0tkh8yn413mtq3wrjrps4) in Europe, but Daniel Levy and could face a battle for him after [Fabrizio Romano’s update](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1383451834568773642) that Bayern look set to target him.
