# Tottenham Hotspur: Christian Benteke ‘offered’ to Spurs as Daniel Levy eyes Harry Kane understudy

**According to a report from [the Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/sep/15/jose-mourinho-keen-to-bring-eintracht-frankfurt-striker-bas-dost-to-tottenham), Spurs have been offered a chance to sign Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke this summer along with the likes of Troy Deeney and Carlos Vinicius – and Tottenham were offered the same opportunity back in 2017 while Mauricio Pochettino was manager.**

Benteke, who scored just [two goals in 24 starts](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-benteke/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/50201) last season for Palace, is currently valued at around [£9.45m by Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-benteke/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/50201) and Spurs now have the option to swoop.

His best ever Premier League haul, scoring [19 for Aston Villa](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-benteke/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/50201) during the 2012/2013 campaign, was followed by a consistent run of goalscoring seasons in the Midlands before Liverpool snapped him up for an eye-watering [£32.5 million.](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/33627800)

After an underwhelming first year, Benteke was immediately shipped out to Crystal Palace where he bagged [15 Premier League strikes](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-benteke/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/50201) in his debut campaign – with a report from [the Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-4449604/Benteke-Townsend-Tottenham-missing.html) back in 2017 claiming Liverpool offered him to Tottenham first.

Now, over three years later, Spurs have been offered that same opportunity according to [the Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/sep/15/jose-mourinho-keen-to-bring-eintracht-frankfurt-striker-bas-dost-to-tottenham) – with the striker hunt still firmly on despite seismic transfer activity concerning the likes of [Sergio Reguilon and Gareth Bale.](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1306126825496641537)

Benteke has emerged as a new name who could move to north London, if Levy were to take the offer, but it is arguable that a move for the ‘[colossal](https://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/aston-villa/news/lambert-praises-colossal-benteke_56743.html)‘ striker doesn’t exactly hold merit.

His lacklustre form since the[17/18 season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/christian-benteke/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/50201) doesn’t exactly warrant the Belgian becoming a potential solution to Jose Mourinho’s lack of depth behind Harry Kane – and the [£120,000-per-week ace](https://www.spotrac.com/epl/crystal-palace/payroll/) is arguably overshadowed by superior options like [Habib Diallo or Bas Dost.](https://youtu.be/1z_cpIqNdMo)
