### Tottenham make Nagelsmann contact

The Portuguese was sacked on Monday following a very bizarre 2020/2021 campaign at the helm, one which started off brightly and briefly saw them [climb to the top of the Premier League.](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/55032761)

One big highlight was [thrashing Manchester United 6-1](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=et53oCo5OZ4&feature=onebox), and another [reaching the Carabao Cup final](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2021/jan/05/tottenham-hotspur-brentford-carabao-cup-semi-final-match-report#:~:text=Tottenham%20beat%20Brentford%20to%20reach%20Carabao%20Cup%20final%20after%20Son%20seals%20win,-Tottenham's%20Son%20Heung&text=Son%20Heung%2Dmin%20had%20no,midway%20through%20the%20second%20half.), but a dismal run of form after the New Year eventually resulted in his official dismissal.

Now, as per Football Insider, Tottenham have made contact for Nagelsmann as a possible heir and are keen to enquire over his interest in the vacant post.

In the mean time, the club have confirmed that Ryan Mason [will take interim charge](https://twitter.com/SpursOfficial/status/1384434476982444034) for the remainder of this season.

The Lilywhites face stern competition from Bayern Munich for Nagelsmann but are apparently hopeful they can steal a march.

### Transfer Tavern take

Lauded as a ‘fearless’ coach by Leipzig regular Tyler Adams ([Bundesliga](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/news/tyler-adams-rb-leipzig-fearless-mentality-coach-julian-nagelsmann-neymar-12490)), he has held in [very high esteem](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/12281028/julian-nagelsmann-to-tottenham-antidote-to-jose-mourinho-can-connect-with-the-current-generation-of-players) by sections of the media – and Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola even heaped praise on Nagelsmann as far back as [three years ago.](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/news/Bundesliga/pep-guardiola-praises-julian-nagelsmann-before-hoffenheim-manchester-city-champions-league-513973.jsp)

His glowing reputation and electric brand of football is one of the main reasons why we believe he is a great managerial candidate and should be the number one priority for Spurs – especially considering he has been dubbed Europe’s ‘most exciting’ coaching talent (Lutz Pfannenstiel via [Goal](https://www.goal.com/en/news/nagelsmann-europes-most-exciting-coach-better-tactically/v87r0tkh8yn413mtq3wrjrps4)).

A report from [the Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9380871/Jose-Mourinho-SACKED-Tottenham-fails-finish-four.html) recently even claimed that those within Tottenham see him as the ‘perfect’ option – and it’s hard to argue with their assessment.
