# Tottenham Hotspur now tracking David Raya

**[Tottenham Hotspur](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/) are now tracking Brentford goalkeeper David Raya as a successor to Hugo Lloris, according to a new report.**

### The Lowdown: Tottenham eyeing Lloris replacement

Lloris has been Tottenham’s first-choice goalkeeper for a number of years, but some mistakes have started to creep into his game recently, and he is now 36, so the club have started to think about bringing in a replacement.

The Frenchman has made [three](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/error_lead_to_goal) errors leading to goals in the [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) this season, more than any other player in the top flight, and so [Antonio Conte](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/antonio-conte/) is [believed](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/tottenham-everton-pickford-lloris-transfers-28899427) to have targeted Jordan Pickford as a successor, but it seems Raya could now also be an option.

### The Latest: Tracking Raya

According to a [report](https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2023/01/08/tottenham-transfer-news-brentfords-david-raya-hugo-lloris-successor/) from the Telegraph, Spurs are tracking the Brentford keeper for a summer transfer switch, as even though Conte remains happy with Lloris, he recognises that a long-term replacement is needed.

However, it is detailed that there is likely to be competition for the 27-year-old’s signature, given that his contract will only have [one](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-raya/profil/spieler/262749) year left on it at the end of the season.

### The Verdict: Get it done?

Lauded as ‘[exceptional](https://twitter.com/SamJDean/status/1426286605233541124?s=20&t=zS2KhHMVcMg7vd5zBSXJVQ)‘ by reporter Sam Dean, the shot-stopper has been in fine form in the Premier League this season, way out in front as the goalkeeper who has made the most saves, registering [79](https://www.premierleague.com/stats/top/players/saves), 11 clear of his nearest rival.

The man in second place, however, is Tottenham’s other goalkeeper target, Pickford, and the Everton man is [deemed](https://twitter.com/NJEmms/status/1601722194567974912?s=20&t=Mbe2v9KUKvELCQbO6gP9eA) by Nick Emms to have ‘world-class distribution’, while also being dubbed a ‘real leader’, so it is a difficult choice for Conte to make.

Despite Raya leading in terms of shots saved, the England number one has more experience at the top level, making [50](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jordan-pickford/nationalmannschaft/spieler/130164) caps for his country, so he would adjust more quickly to the move, and should be prioritised ahead of the Spaniard.
