# Tottenham Hotspur: Inter Milan could target Emerson Royal

**[Tottenham Hotspur](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/) right-back Emerson Royal could now be targeted by Inter Milan, according to a new report.**

### The Lowdown: Emerson’s poor form

Tottenham manager [Antonio Conte](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/antonio-conte/) has [reportedly](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/kessie-tete-conte-tottenham-transfer-25856386) identified right wing-back as one of the main areas that needs strengthening this month, and there have already been a whole host of different names spoken about.

Fabrizio Romano has [claimed](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1611349055472369664?s=20&t=qhWDESwf3YAGZuUs6ZlKsg) that Pedro Porro is at the top of their list, with the likes of [Ivan Fresneda](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/tottenham-ivan-fresneda-transfer-rumours/) and [Vanderson](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/tottenham-hotspur-vanderson-transfer-rumours/) also being linked with moves, after uninspiring performances from Emerson.

The Brazilian received scathing criticism from journalist Josh Bunting earlier this season, who [stated](https://twitter.com/Buntingfootball/status/1584233658797686784?s=20&t=68WZ3C1HfsedyIHoT-8VTQ) that he could be the worst player to play for Spurs in his lifetime, and he is currently ranked [14th](https://www.sofascore.com/team/football/tottenham-hotspur/33) in the squad for his average SofaScore match rating.

### The Latest: Offered to Inter?

According to a [report](https://www.interlive.it/2023/01/09/calciomercato-inter-emerson-royal-tottenham-conte-paratici-dumfries/) from Inter Live (via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/tottenham-not-asking-e25m-player-price-tease-interested-club/)), Conte has not been convinced by the 23-year-old’s performances either, and will happily bring in an upgrade if possible.

As such, Tottenham could then look to sell Royal for around £22m, a deal that ‘could tease’ Inter as a potential replacement for Denzel Dumfries.

### The Verdict: Great business

Tottenham signed the defender for [£25.73m](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/12395579/emerson-royal-tottenham-sign-right-back-from-barcelona) last September, and so considering he has not impressed for the club at all, being able to recoup the majority of that outlay would be a fantastic piece of business, if possible.

Football writer Seb Jenkins has [claimed](https://twitter.com/SpursWebSeb/status/1477639698440929289?s=20&t=SZZz8gxDxu9_xMl-VQ_GCw) that the former Barcelona man has ‘lots of great attributes’, but these have scarcely been on show in a white shirt, offering precious little to Conte’s side going forward, registering just [one](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/emerson-royal/leistungsdaten/spieler/476344) [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) assist this season.

Being able to sell the [seven](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/emerson-royal/nationalmannschaft/spieler/476344)-time Brazil international could allow Spurs the required funds to sign Porro, who has proven himself to be a real creative force with Sporting CP, averaging 0.39 assists per 90 in the past year, in the [99th](https://fbref.com/en/players/27d0a506/Pedro-Porro) percentile compared to other full-backs.
