# Tottenham Hotspur: Eric Dier signs new four-year deal

**Tottenham Hotspur have already made their first major announcement ahead of the 2020/21 Premier League season by handing [Oliver Skipp](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/tottenham-oliver-skipp-signs-new-deal-contract/) a new deal.**

However, [Spurs fans](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/tottenham-confident-new-contract-eric-dier/) have got what they wanted all along. Eric Dier has signed a new four-year deal with the club, keeping him in north London until 2024.

[Spurs](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/tottenham-confident-new-contract-eric-dier/) had been confident they could persuade Dier to sign a new deal and now it seems they have got their wish.

Dier, 26, was a firm favourite of former boss [Mauricio Pochettino](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/mauricio-pochettino/eingesetzteSpieler/trainer/9044), making more than 200 appearances for the Argentine.

The England international has played [15 games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/eric-dier/leistungsdatentrainer/spieler/175722/plus/0/trainer_id/781) in the Premier League for his successor Jose Mourinho this season, supplying two assists, making 1.2 tackles per game, averaging 1.1 interceptions, and completing a staggering 3.1 clearances on average (via [WhoScored](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/tottenham-confident-new-contract-eric-dier/)).

He has now ended [any speculation](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/jose-mourinho-ensured-tottenham-handed-18633566) about his future by inking a new deal, as his previous contract was set to expire next year.

[\[freshpress-poll id=”310562″\]](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/[freshpress-poll%20id=%22310562%22])

Dier initially switched from the defence to the midfield in his second season with [Spurs](https://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/2020/july/new-contract-for-dier/), before reverting back to his original position, and he has [impressed](https://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/news/2020/july/new-contract-for-dier/) in the heart of the defence in recent weeks.

He has been a regular under [Mourinho](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/breaking-eric-dier-tottenham-contract-18633177) so far, although a four-match ban brought a premature halt to proceedings.

Before [Mourinho](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/jose-mourinho-ensured-tottenham-handed-18633566) arrived in north London, it is fair to say Dier hadn’t had it easy, as he had only recently recovered from [numerous injuries, illness and mixed form](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-tottenham-confident-of-agreeing-new-deal-with-senior-star/).

According to [Alasdair Gold](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/jose-mourinho-ensured-tottenham-handed-18633566), his confidence was shot to pieces but this has been revived by the Portuguese’s revival, as a change in [position](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/jose-mourinho-ensured-tottenham-handed-18633566) has spurred his renaissance.

Dier has nailed down a place in the starting lineup as a defender and since the Premier League restart he has helped the team keep [two clean sheets](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/eric-dier/leistungsdaten/spieler/175722) in four appearances, which implies things are heading in the right direction.

The fact he has signed a new contract bodes well for the [future](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/players/jose-mourinho-ensured-tottenham-handed-18633566) as the Lilywhites look to resume the hunt for silverware next season.
