# Tottenham Hotspur: Fabrizio Romano drops Spurs transfer claim surrounding Sven Botman

**Writing on [Twitter](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1361014742056378373), reliable journalist Fabrizio Romano has dropped a Tottenham Hotspur transfer claim surrounding Lille defender Sven Botman – going on to reveal Daniel Levy’s interest back in January.**

Botman, who has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool recently ([Sunday World](https://www.sundayworld.com/sport/soccer/jurgen-klopp-hints-at-a-change-of-transfer-plan-after-joel-matip-is-injured-in-liverpools-win-spurs-40024734.html)), is now at the centre of this Romano claim that Spurs were also eyeing him last month – with the Dutchman previously touted as an ideal heir to Jan Vertonghen ([ESPN](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/4243355/january-transfer-window-preview-messi-to-city-sancho-to-united-liverpool-to-land-upamecano)).

### Romano drops Tottenham transfer claim

Indeed, the 21-year-old is apparently [assertive in the air](https://www.espn.co.uk/football/soccer-transfers/story/4243355/january-transfer-window-preview-messi-to-city-sancho-to-united-liverpool-to-land-upamecano) and has averaged a noteworthy 85.7% pass accuracy out from the back over 24 Ligue 1 starts this campaign ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/379732/Show/Sven-Botman)).

Transfer rumours for Spurs in January appeared to centre around the likes of Christian Eriksen ([Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/12191378/christian-eriksens-tottenham-return-and-dele-alli-to-paris-saint-germain-fabrizio-romano-discusses-transfer-window)) and Nikola Maksimovic ([Nicolo Schira](https://twitter.com/NicoSchira/status/1354036304116408320)), but the Sky Sports transfer guru has now claimed that Tottenham were also interested in Botman.

“Sven Botman will certainly be a key player in the summer transfers market, but there’s still no agreement with any English club as of today,” explained Romano on [social media.](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1361014742056378373)

“Fake news”, agent Bruinenberg comments. Tottenham and Liverpool were interested in January but he’s never been close to leave Lille.”

### Transfer Tavern take

Whether or not they will lodge a summer pursuit for the [6 foot 4](https://www.ligue1.com/Articles/LIGUE-1-SHOW/2020/10/03/sven-botman-lille-s-dutch-knight-rises-fonte-galtier-losc) sensation remains to be seen, but Levy and manager Jose Mourinho could certainly use his presence in defence.

Regardless of his fairly young age, Botman has already been touted as a ‘[leader](https://www.ligue1.com/Articles/LIGUE-1-SHOW/2020/10/03/sven-botman-lille-s-dutch-knight-rises-fonte-galtier-losc)‘ by Lille boss Christophe Galtier and has been likened physically to star Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk through the media ([Ligue 1](https://www.ligue1.com/Articles/LIGUE-1-SHOW/2020/10/03/sven-botman-lille-s-dutch-knight-rises-fonte-galtier-losc)).

A past report from [Foot Mercato](https://www.footmercato.net/a287842746335233560-losc-ca-bouge-deja-pour-sven-botman) claimed he could leave France for a sum of around [€30 million (£26.1m)](https://www.footmercato.net/a287842746335233560-losc-ca-bouge-deja-pour-sven-botman) due to Lille’s financial situation, and a valuation similar to this amount should arguably entice Levy into a potential future deal.
