# Tottenham Hotspur: Fans fume as club set to negotiate a new contract with Eric Dier

**Some Tottenham Hotspur fans are fuming as news emerged from [Football Insider](https://twitter.com/footyinsider247) (via [Ricky Sacks](https://twitter.com/RickSpur/status/1253428481456627712)) that the north London club are ready to perform a U-turn and re-open negotiations with Eric Dier over a new contract.**

The Lilywhites were prepared to listen to offers, however Jose Mourinho is planning to give the 26-year old a chance to make the centre-back position his own.

Indeed, Dier has played as a central defender before under the Portuguese coach, making five appearances in that position, according to [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/eric-dier/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/175722/plus/0?saison=&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=781). He was also played there more regularly during his time with Sporting Lisbon, making 11 appearances as a centre-back for the senior side, as per the [website](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/eric-dier/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/175722/plus/0?saison=&verein=336&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=).

The English international signed a deal for five years worth nearly a [reported](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenhams-eric-dier-signs-new-fiveyear-contract-at-white-hart-lane-a3343431.html) £70,000 a week back in 2016, but as we are now in 2020 time is running out before he could potentially leave on a free transfer.

These THFC supporters were fuming after hearing the news:
