# Tottenham Hotspur: Fans not keen on signing James Rodriguez

**Jose Mourinho is keen on taking James Rodriguez to Tottenham Hotspur in January, that is according to sources in Spain via [Calciomercato](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/napoli-non-si-molla-james-rodriguez-le-novita-76592).**

The midfielder is currently back at Real Madrid after spending two years on loan with Bayern Munich, but he has struggled to make much of an impact at the Bernabeu this term.

Indeed, he has started just four times for Los Blancos in La Liga and has recently been out of action due to a ligament injury ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.com/james-rodriguez/leistungsdaten/spieler/88103)).

According to [El Desmarque](https://eldesmarque.com/madrid/real-madrid/noticias/178153-james-rodriguez-y-tu-florentino-perez-lo-hace-2x1-en-el-real-madrid-para-enero-ed), the Colombian is not part of Zinedine Zidane’s long-term plans and, therefore, could be available when the transfer window opens next month.

Mourinho has tried to sign Rodriguez in the past. Whilst he was in charge at Manchester United, it was reported that he tried to take the creative midfielder to Old Trafford ([The Independent](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/manchester-united-transfer-news-james-rodriguez-real-madrid-wayne-rooney-everton-a7828861.html)).

However, it appears that many Spurs fans wouldn’t be too keen on signing the 28-year-old. Some think that he is past his best, whilst others simply feel that he wouldn’t fit in and isn’t what they need.

Here is what some supporters said about the Rodriguez link on Twitter, with one fan claiming signing him would give Spurs their very own Mesut Ozil…

> James has never done well in Europe, don’t know why clubs still want him.

> James is a flop. Please don’t get him. Wouldn’t mind him playing RB for us in all fairness.

> Florenzi would be good, not sold on Rodriguez, talented yes but we have too many similar players, and I imagine his wages would be astronomical

> I dont see james is mourinho type player. Not at all. Even lo celso not in his plan. Spurs need more depth in winger, cdm with big body and tall as eric dier, and a good full back.
