# Tottenham Hotspur: Fans react to club post about Fernando Llorente

**Tottenham Hotspur sent former striker Fernando Llorente a birthday message on Wednesday as the Spaniard turned 35 ([@SpursOfficial](https://twitter.com/SpursOfficial/status/1232610003539808259)).**

The 6’4″ frontman played for Spurs between 2017 and 2019 after joining from Swansea City for a reported £12.1m fee ([Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/11013439/fernando-llorente-joins-tottenham-from-swansea)). In his time at the club, he made 66 appearances in all competitions, scoring 13 goals and racking up six assists ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fernando-llorente/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/35564)).

He certainly provided the north London club with some memorable moments, most notably when he scored a crucial goal in their Champions League quarter-final tie against Manchester City last season which sent them into the last four ([BT Sport](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=insYFfPrrFo)).

Despite that contribution he was released by Tottenham last summer and he went on to join Serie A outfit Napoli, where he has scored four times this term ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fernando-llorente/leistungsdaten/spieler/35564)).

He was actually linked with a return to Spurs in January after it was confirmed that Harry Kane would be out for a while with an injury ([La Gazzetta dello Sport](https://www.gazzetta.it/Calcio/Serie-A/Napoli/13-01-2020/napoli-llorente-younes-la-valigia-pronta-36059945445.shtml)), but a move never materialised. However, it seems that plenty of their supporters wish they had re-signed the Spaniard, whilst others believe they should never have let him go in the first place.

Here is what some had to say…

> We should have at least gotten him back in January.
