# Tottenham Hotspur: Fans slam Daniel Levy after he tells Mourinho to sell players to fund free transfer

**Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho will need to sell stars like Erik Lamela to fund a move for free agent Willian, according to [the Daily Star](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/jose-mourinho-needs-offload-tottenham-22114253) via [@RickSpur](https://twitter.com/RickSpur/status/1267025728618541058).**

Willian’s contract is set to expire at the end of the [month](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/willian/profil/spieler/52769) and he has been linked with a move across London, with [recent reports](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/football/11717116/arsenal-tottenham-transfer-willian-chelsea/) tipping him to reunite with his former Chelsea manager.

However, Spurs chairman [Daniel Levy](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/jose-mourinho-needs-offload-tottenham-22114253) has reportedly told Mourinho he will need to offload players to fund a move for the Brazilian.

Levy is unwilling to splash the cash for the South American, who [reportedly](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/jose-mourinho-needs-offload-tottenham-22114253) earns £120,000-a-week, despite the fact he will be available for free when the transfer market opens.

After arriving at Stamford Bridge from Anzhi Makhachkala for [£31.95m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/willian/profil/spieler/52769) back in 2013, the [dead-ball-specialist](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/29463/Show/Willian) has won the Premier League twice, the Europa League, the FA Cup and League Cup. He also lifted the Copa America trophy with Brazil last year ([Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/willian/erfolge/spieler/52769)).

Football journalist [Ricky Sacks](https://twitter.com/RickSpur/status/1267025728618541058) shared the news on social media, tweeting “Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy has informed José Mourinho he will need to sell players to fund a move for free agent Willian. Lamela is one likely to leave when the window opens with Spurs ready to listen to offers in the region of £20M.”

Although it is fair to say he is entering the twilight of his career, the 31-year-old hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down, as he has the second-highest [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/15/Show/England-Chelsea) rating out of all of his Chelsea teammates. The Brazil international has scored 5 goals and created 5 assists in the Premier League this season, taking 1.9 shots per game, averaging 1.8 key passes, and making 1.9 dribbles on average ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/29463/Show/Willian)).

Admittedly, it is worth pointing out a large section of the fan base still resent the winger, after he [infamously](https://www.eurosport.co.uk/football/willian-finally-reveals-secrets-of-tottenham-transfer-saga-i-was-stuck-in-their-office-for-8-hours_sto6877483/story.shtml) snubbed Tottenham for the Blues despite having already completed his medical tests at White Hart Lane.

Nevertheless, loads of Spurs fans slammed Levy as the news emerged, with a supporter branding him a “shambolic chairman,” and another adding the transfer update is “unbelievable.” One fan commented this is “peak Levy,” clearly referencing the fact it is unlikely the club will spend a substantial amount of money in the transfer market due to the ongoing pandemic. Remarkably, the Lilywhites didn’t spend a single penny on transfer fees in the 18/19 season (via [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/transfers/verein/148/saison_id/2018)), perhaps explaining the anger aimed towards Levy.
