# Tottenham Hotspur: Harry Redknapp tips Spurs to mount title challenge next season

**Harry Redknapp believes that Tottenham can challenge Manchester City and Liverpool for the Premier League title next season.**

Despite the North London club finishing some [27 points](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-table/2018) off the pace last year, former Spurs boss Redknapp is backing Mauricio Pochettino’s side to steer clear of the chasing pack for the Champions League places by mounting a title challenge of their own.

Spurs have never finished higher than [second](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/platzierungen/verein/148) in the Premier League era, coming closest when ending the 2016/17 season as runners-up to Antonio Conte’s [Chelsea](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-table/2016).

But Redknapp believes Tottenham are in the running to achieve a new personal best in the competition – and deliver a first league title for almost [60 years](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/erfolge/verein/148).

Speaking to BetVictor, Redknapp said (via [Football.london](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/news/harry-redknapp-makes-big-tottenham-16700141)): “I think Man City and Liverpool are obviously strong favourites. I also think Tottenham will get closer to the top two this year, so I just only see three teams.”

Though there is a potential for bias from Redknapp, given the manager’s personal ties with Spurs (with son [Jamie](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/jamie-redknapp/transfers/spieler/3424) also turning out for Tottenham), the club’s run to the [Champions League final](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48368443) last year may be decent evidence to suggest the team can deliver in the big games – even against the likes of [Manchester City](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47953693) – who they defeated at the quarter-final stage.

Although Pochettino’s men did succumb to [13 league defeats](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-table/2018) last season despite securing their Champions League status – which was the most among the top six and as many as seventh-placed Wolves.

And with the teams around them (apart from perhaps [Chelsea](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/47329293)) strengthening for a second year in succession, bar the record signing of [Tanguy Ndombele](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48841318), it is surely becoming increasingly difficult to provide arguments to label Spurs as dead certs for the top four, never mind title challengers.

Meanwhile, Spurs’ level of [strengthening](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tottenham-hotspur/alletransfers/verein/148) is hardly on the level that [City](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/manchester-city/transfers/verein/281/plus/0?saison_id=2017&pos=&detailpos=&w_s=) or indeed [Liverpool](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/liverpool-fc/transfers/verein/31/plus/0?saison_id=2018&pos=&detailpos=&w_s=) undertook prior to their title onslaughts in recent years.

Therefore, Redknapp may be left disappointed come May should their transfer market shortcomings illustrate themselves on the Premier League table in nine months’ time.
