# Tottenham Hotspur: Harry Redknapp urges Spurs to avoid signing new striker despite Harry Kane’s injury

**Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp thinks the best way for Spurs to move forward without the injured Harry Kane is to either change formation or find an in-house solution to solve their striking issues.**

Kane is expected to be out for the foreseeable future, with Jose Mourinho recently speculating that he could even [miss the European Championships](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/11908028/harry-kane-could-miss-euro-2020-jose-mourinho-suggests) in the summer. However, speaking on [Sky Sports’](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11675/11909466/harry-no-need-for-spurs-to-enter-market) The Transfer Show, Redknapp feels Spurs should resist the temptation to replace Kane with a new signing in the January window.

He said: “I love Harry, what a player. But they got away with it last year. \[Heung-min\] Son, Lucas Moura, Dele Alli, managed to find a way of playing. They got to the Champions League final. A lot of teams nowadays play without a central striker. I don’t think I would dive in now and take somebody who, in three months’ time, is going to have to sit on the bench and will be surplus to requirements. If I was Jose, I think I would sit tight.

“They have unearthed a young kid out of the reserves this week who came in and played all across the back four – he’s been great. I am sure there might be another one there, who they might want to give a chance to.”

In fairness to Redknapp, it may be a tricky sell for Spurs to offer someone a starting place which, in all probability, will be non-existent once Kane is back to full fitness, with the England striker playing [every minute](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harry-kane/leistungsdaten/spieler/132098) in the Premier League when he has been fit.

That said, that doesn’t mean Spurs necessarily have the resources to directly replace from within – and given the likes of [Troy Parrott](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/troy-parrott/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/552655/plus/0?saison=2019&verein=148&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=), for example, have not been given a first-team berth following Kane’s absence, it does not appear to be a viable option for Mourinho at present.

At the moment, it looks as if Mourinho is trying something similar to what Mauricio Pochettino did [last season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lucas-moura/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/77100/plus/0?saison=2018&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) by playing [Lucas Moura](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lucas-moura/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/77100/plus/0?saison=2019&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) as his main attacking threat while Kane recovers.

And having reached the Champions League final last season without their main man up top, perhaps the tried-and-tested route that Redknapp suggests is perhaps Mourinho’s best chance of delivering success with this current Tottenham side this year.
