The tough-tackling defender had been spending his time on-loan at Southampton last campaign, and the Saints [were touted](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3150824/Tottenham-remain-runners-land-Toby-Alderweireld-11-5million.html) to be making the loan deal into a permanent one.

However, it is [now reported that Spurs are close to complet](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3150824/Tottenham-remain-runners-land-Toby-Alderweireld-11-5million.html)ing a £11.5m transfer and around £1m in bonuses for the 26-year-old to make Spurs his new home.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy traveled to Madrid to get the deal done, [according to reports,](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3150824/Tottenham-remain-runners-land-Toby-Alderweireld-11-5million.html)and it appears talks ended in securing a transfer.

A number of Tottenham supporting punters over on table 84 here in the Football Transfer Tavern are very happy about this news, and feel that Alderweireld and Vertonghen would make a formidable partnership at the back for the club.
