# Tottenham Hotspur: Italian source shares big Stefan de Vrij update

**As per [InterLive.it,](https://www.interlive.it/2022/03/03/calciomercato-inter-de-vrij-tottenham-conte-bremer/) as also translated and shared by [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/club-lose-one-pillars-tottenham-players-signing-spurs-request-conte/), there has been a big update on Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer plans involving Inter Milan star Stefan de Vrij.**

### The Lowdown: Tottenham eye move…

The Lilywhites have been heavily linked with a move for de Vrij for the better part of a few months with reports [as far back as November 2021](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-de-vrij-tells-friends-latest-on-tottenham-move-with-january-a-possibility/) detailing interest from Tottenham.

Inter’s star defender is out of contract in [2023](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/stefan-de-vrij/profil/spieler/111196), hardly affording the Nerazzurri much time to make a profit off of his sale, with [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-de-vrij-tells-friends-latest-on-tottenham-move-with-january-a-possibility/) reporting near the end of last year that his price tag was set at around £40 million.

In an update, [Inter Live.it](https://www.interlive.it/2022/03/03/calciomercato-inter-de-vrij-tottenham-conte-bremer/) (via [SW](https://sportwitness.co.uk/club-lose-one-pillars-tottenham-players-signing-spurs-request-conte/)) say that figure has now plummeted by nearly half.

### The Latest: Conte green-lights move…

According to their sources, Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has personally requested the signing of de Vrij as he green-lights a move.

As well as this, with Fabio Paratici willing to offer the Netherlands international a €6.5 million-per-year deal (£5.3m), Inter will now sanction his sale for around €25-30m (£20.7m-£24.8m).

### The Verdict: Get it done…

Amid this near 50% drop in asking price, it would be foolish for Paratici and co not to make a move.

Despite being 30-years-old, de Vrij could come in as a brilliant short term option to bolster Tottenham’s central defensive roster – especially considering just how [pivotal he was for Conte](https://www.calciomercato.com/en/news/conte-praises-de-vrij-as-like-bonucci-46459) during the Italian’s time at Inter.

Lauded as a [‘world-beater’](https://www.footballinsider247.com/de-vrij-can-be-a-tottenham-legend-after-source-reveals-january-transfer-latest-pundit/) by former Leeds striker Noel Whelan, we believe potentially landing him for as little as £20.7m could be a steal this summer.
