# Tottenham Hotspur: Italian report makes Lautaro Martinez claim

**According to a report from the print edition of Italian newspaper [Gazzetta dello Sport](https://www.gazzetta.it/) (via [SempreInter](https://sempreinter.com/2022/04/17/atletico-madrid-barcelona-tottenham-to-battle-it-out-over-inters-lautaro-martinez-italian-media-report/)), Tottenham Hotspur are among the leading contenders to sign Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez.**

### The lowdown: Spurs’ interest

Spurs have been continually [linked](https://www.teamtalk.com/tottenham-hotspur/lautaro-martinez-perfect-destinations-fabio-paratici-loves-inter-milan-striker-atletico-madrid-battle) with a move for the 24-year-old for some time and it appears that the interest remains heading onto the summer transfer window.

The reigning Serie A title holders could once again cash in on a big name having sold Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea in 2021 for an eye-watering £97.5million ([Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11668/12375524/romelu-lukaku-chelsea-break-club-transfer-record-to-re-sign-striker-from-inter-milan-for-97-5m)).

This time it could be Tottenham that benefits as manager Antonio Conte eyes up a reunion with Martinez…

### The latest: Italian media names three suitors

As per [Gazzetta dello Sport](https://www.gazzetta.it/) (via [SempreInter](https://sempreinter.com/2022/04/17/atletico-madrid-barcelona-tottenham-to-battle-it-out-over-inters-lautaro-martinez-italian-media-report/)), the Lilywhites, alongside Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, ‘have emerged as the main candidates’ to sign the Argentina international.

It’s claimed that the Nezzarruri will demand a fee in the region of  €60-70million (£50-58million) for the man once hailed as [‘spectacular’](https://talksport.com/football/683970/lautaro-martinez-arsenal-transfer-news-inter-milan-lionel-messi-barcelona-man-city/) by Lionel Messi.

Furthermore, the interest from N17 is believed to be increasing as Tottenham transfer chief Fabio Paratici attempts to reunite Martinez with Conte after the [37-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lautaro-martinez/nationalmannschaft/spieler/406625/verein_id/3437) ace netted [40 goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lautaro-martinez/leistungsdatentrainer/spieler/406625) under the Italian’s tutelage at the San Siro.

### The verdict: At all costs

This is a deal Spurs should be desperate to complete regardless of Harry Kane’s situation at the club this summer.

Martinez has often operated in a strike partnership, most [notably](https://twitter.com/whoscored/status/1424336764798443523) alongside Lukaku, and therefore would likely have no issues linking up alongside pass master Kane for the Lilywhites.

So far this season the Argentinian has [scored 17 goals and provided three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/lautaro-martinez/leistungsdaten/spieler/406625) in 41 appearances across all competitions including a UEFA Champions League [stunner](https://twitter.com/goal/status/1501326512670359556) against Liverpool.

Signing a player of this pedigree for the mooted asking price would be a superb piece of business.
