# Tottenham Hotspur: Kieran Maguire drops Sergio Reguilon transfer claim

**Football finance guru Kieran Maguire has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur would not feel too aggrieved if they sold Sergio Reguilon back to Real Madrid.**

Spanish newspaper [Sport](https://www.sport.es/es/noticias/real-madrid/real-madrid-plantea-recomprar-reguilon-11472722) have reported that the La Liga giants are planning to re-sign the Spain international less than six months after selling him to Spurs.

The North London club paid a reported[£25m](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/tottenham-transfer-news-sergio-reguilon-real-madrid-a4548491.html) for him in the summer transfer window, and the buy-back clause would be at a greater value than this sum.

Maguire has since claimed to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/exclusive-everyones-happy-finance-reacts-to-41m-real-madrid-tottenham-reveal/) that that kind of deal may suit the Lilywhites if they were for whatever reason to decide to sell the Spain international:

*“If you are selling a younger player who you don’t really want to sell, this is a way of accelerating the deal.*

*“The buying club tends to be reluctant because Reguilon’s market value is probably going to be more than £41m but at least Spurs would get a decent fee out of it should Real Madrid choose to utilise it.*

*“I think to a certain extent everyone’s happy should the player leave. It’s very much part of modern-day negotiations.”*

### Spurs must keep Reguilon at all costs

Jose Mourinho’s team must look to keep Reguilon at all costs, even if they were to yield a tidy profit if they were to sell him back to Los Blancos.

The 24-year-old has turned out to be a very good buy so far, winning no fewer than 4.1 of his duels a game so far in the Premier League in the 2020/21 term, while also averaging 2.3 clearances, 1.7 tackles and one interception per match, grabbing himself three assists ([Sofascore](https://www.sofascore.com/player/sergio-reguilon/858195)).

Pundit and former full-back Micah Richards even described him as [‘brilliant’](https://tbrfootball.com/micah-richards-called-sergio-reguilon-a-big-positive-for-tottenham-after-latest-display/) in a recent display in the 1-1 home draw against Fulham, and no matter how much money THFC could potentially get back for him, Reguilon must be kept at all costs.
