# Tottenham Hotspur: Lilywhites gain advantage in Isco chase

**Tottenham Hotspur have gained an advantage over Arsenal as both clubs track Real Madrid attacking midfielder Isco, according to the [Sunday Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1461181/Arsenal-Tottenham-transfer-news-Isco-Real-Madrid-news-Premier-League).**

### The Lowdown: Spurs settle into life under Espirito Santo

Progressing towards 2021/22, many onlookers up and down the country will be intrigued to see how Nuno Espirito Santo revitalises a fragmented Spurs outfit going into the new season.

Although the Lilywhites haven’t secured any transfer targets as of yet, Takehiro Tomiyasu is said to be close to completing a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium \[[Football London](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/takehiro-tomiyasu-tottenham-transfer-paratici-21016361)\].

Building ahead of pre-season, Spurs may be set to make progress in another pursuit following recent developments.

### The Latest: Isco wants to move to a club competing in Europe next season

Isco is interested in a move to England, although he would prefer it to be to a team playing in Europe, according to the [Sunday Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1461181/Arsenal-Tottenham-transfer-news-Isco-Real-Madrid-news-Premier-League).

With both north London clubs keen on the 29-year-old, Spurs hold an advantage over their adversaries after qualifying for the inaugural Europa Conference League at the Gunners’ expense \[[Football London](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/fixtures-results/tottenham-europa-conference-league-teams-20716678)\].

Real Madrid are looking to sell Isco this summer as his contract is set to expire in 12 months’ time. Not wanting to lose him on a free next summer, the La Liga giants could demand as little as £6m for his services. \[[Sunday Express](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/fixtures-results/tottenham-europa-conference-league-teams-20716678)\]

### The Verdict: Isco would be a marquee addition for Tottenham Hotspur

Upon reflection, the Spain international would be a marquee addition to the Tottenham fold. Renowned for his [creative intuition](https://www.marca.com/2013/06/28/en/football/real_madrid/1372403264.html), he would bring flair and a colourful nature to any starting XI.

Across his time in Madrid, Isco has registered 107 goal contributions in 336 appearances, with 51 goals and 56 assists \[[Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/isco/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/85288)\].

He has been a major player in one of the most glorious eras in Los Blancos’ history, winning 16 trophies in his time at the Bernabeu – four Champions Leagues, two La Liga titles, four Club World Cups, three UEFA Super Cups, two Spanish Super Cups and the Copa del Rey trophy \[[Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/isco/erfolge/spieler/85288)\].

In spite of this glittering CV, the Benalmádena-born attacker may be in need of a fresh challenge after only registering two assists from 28 goalless outings in 2020/21 \[[Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/isco/leistungsdaten/spieler/85288/plus/0?saison=2020)\].

Once described as ‘incredible’ by former Barcelona legend Andres Iniesta \[[FotMob](https://www.fotmob.com/news/xhu2fteekyni1df14ncq5ulzf/iniesta-and-suarez-heap-praise-on-isco-as-barcelona-transfer-talk-intensifies)\], Tottenham could be the perfect platform for Isco to get his career back on an upward trajectory.
