# Tottenham Hotspur: Lilywhites officials spotted on Hugo Ekitike mission

**As per[90min reporter Graeme Bailey](https://www.90min.com/posts/hugo-ekitike-premier-league-big-six-watching-stade-reims-starlet), a transfer update has emerged involving Tottenham Hotspur and red-hot Reims striker Hugo Ekitike.**

### The Lowdown: No back-up for Kane…

Alasdair Gold, a reliable Spurs correspondent for football.london, detailed manager Antonio Conte’s [wishes to sign a striking back-up](https://twitter.com/alasdairgold/status/1479435865822748680?s=21) for Harry Kane last month.

They were [long-linked](https://sportwitness.co.uk/tottenham-not-let-go-signing-meeting-held-spurs-perhaps-favourite-get-deal-done/) with a move for Serie A star Dusan Vlahovic, but following the Serbian’s blockbuster move to Juventus, it appears Fabio Paratici must get back to the drawing board.

Alvaro Morata became a[rumoured target for Spurs](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-transfer-rumours/alvaro-morata-spurs-transfer-latest-conte-paratici/) near the end of January, but now a new name has emerged in Ekitike, with the Lilywhites even sending officials on a recent Sunday mission.

### The Latest: Spurs eye Ekitike…

As per [90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/hugo-ekitike-premier-league-big-six-watching-stade-reims-starlet), Tottenham officials were spotted in Europe at the weekend as they cast their eye on one of Ligue 1’s most promising strikers.

Ekitike inspired his side’s 5-0 win over Bordeaux, opening the scoring just before half time, with Lilywhites representatives among chiefs sent by a wealth of other top European sides.

### The Verdict: Make a move…

The 19-year-old is quickly making a name for himself in France, [drawing comparisons](https://twitter.com/graemebailey/status/1480587429698543620?s=21) with Paris-Saint Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe, and Spurs would be foolish not to at least consider a move.

Reims had accepted a bid totalling [£33 million from Newcastle](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-10459239/Newcastle-revive-talks-sign-Reims-striker-Hugo-Ekitike.html) for Ekitike on deadline day, but after the talented teenager rejected a move to the North East, it appears Paratici may have been gifted a summer chance to swoop in.

Having scored [ten goals whilst assisting four others](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/hugo-ekitike/leistungsdaten/spieler/709726) in all competitions this season, Ekitike has also been called ‘quality’ by his manager Oscar Garcia ([Ligue 1)](https://www.ligue1.com/Articles/LIGUE-1-SHOW/2021/11/28/ekitike-reims-top-teenager-goals).

At such a young age, the attacker could certainly be worth keeping an eye on for Spurs at the very least.
