# Tottenham Hotspur: Spurs linked with Marcus Edwards

**[Tottenham Hotspur](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-hotspur-news/) have been linked with a move for their former youth player Marcus Edwards.**

### The Lowdown: Edwards’ history with Spurs

Having worked his way through the youth ranks at Tottenham, the winger left to [join](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcus-edwards/transfers/spieler/314367) Portuguese club Vitoria Guimaraes in 2019.

The 23-year-old then [joined](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcus-edwards/transfers/spieler/314367) his current employers Sporting Lisbon last January and has since gone on to score 10 goals in 34 appearances, taking his career total to [32](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcus-edwards/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/314367) goals in [164](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcus-edwards/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/314367) senior club career games.

After [playing](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcus-edwards/leistungsdaten/spieler/314367) against his former club in this season’s Champions League group stage, it appears that the Englishman has been linked with a move back to Spurs.

### The Latest: Spurs linked with Edwards return

According to a recent report from [Record](https://www.record.pt/futebol/futebol-nacional/liga-bwin/sporting/detalhe/tottenham-cerca-edwards?ref=Sporting_DestaquesPrincipais), the north London club have their eyes on potentially bringing the winger back to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Last month, Edwards told the [Evening Standard](https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/marcus-edwards-tottenham-sporting-cp-b1035637.html) that he would be open to coming back to the [Premier League](https://www.footballfancast.com/premier-league) in the future, which suggests that Fabio Paratici could entice the player if he makes a convincing enough offer to him.

### The Verdict: Worth a punt

Across Edwards’ [19](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcus-edwards/leistungsdaten/spieler/314367) games this season, he has found the net seven times and delivered six assists. One of those [goals](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcus-edwards/leistungsdaten/spieler/314367) came against Antonio Conte’s side as they drew 1-1 in the Champions League last month.

Indeed, his performance in the first meeting between the two teams in September, when Sporting won 2-0, was lauded as “[unbelievable](https://twitter.com/JPW_NBCSports/status/1569741116366274561?s=20&t=Zjx4ryCcBNiebFFeT1cDYQ)” by journalist Joe Prince-Wright, showing how much he haunted the Lilywhites when given the chance to prove a point to his former club.

To further highlight how impressive the former Spurs youngster has been for his current club this season, he has made more successful dribbles ([24](https://fbref.com/en/squads/13dc44fd/Sporting-CP-Stats)) than any of his team-mates in the league, along with the highest rate of shot-creating actions per 90 minutes ([5.83](https://fbref.com/en/squads/13dc44fd/Sporting-CP-Stats)) at the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Moving forward, if Tottenham think securing a deal to bring Edwards back to the north London club would be a good move for all involved, they should definitely explore the possibility whenever they see fit.
