# Tottenham Hotspur: Milan Skriniar still on table as Spurs push with negotiations

**According to a report by [Daily Mirror journalist John Cross](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/tottenham-transfer-news-milan-skriniar-22789376), Tottenham, and chairman Daniel Levy, are making one final deadline day push to sign star Serie A defender Milan Skriniar – but the club are still trying to negotiate his lofty £45 million asking price.**

It’s already been quite the summer window for Spurs, sealing deals for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart, Matt Doherty, Sergio Reguilon, Carlos Vinicius and the return of club icon Gareth Bale on a season-long loan.

However, as per this update, Levy and co are pushing for a seventh summer acquisition – even after running riot [6-1 at Old Trafford yesterday afternoon.](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/54412951)

While Tottenham’s attacking options appear plentiful, Jose Mourinho’s side could still be short at the back, thanks in part to the departure of fan favourite Jan Vertonghen on a [free transfer to Benfica.](https://talksport.com/football/745377/tottenham-jan-vertonghen-signs-benfica/)

As a result, the club have been heavily linked to swooping for a centre-back, and Skriniar is hotly tipped as Spurs’ main priority among alternative options like Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger ([Football.London](https://www.football.london/tottenham-hotspur-fc/transfer-news/milan-skriniar-tottenham-latest-mourinho-19041948)).

Now, despite having merely hours to get a done deal over the line, Mirror reporter Cross has claimed that Tottenham are not ready to give up on the Slovakian colossus – despite both Inter and the Lilywhites being miles apart in terms of valuation.

The Serie A giants want [£45m](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/tottenham-transfer-news-milan-skriniar-22789376) up front, a price Levy is unwilling to pay, with negotiations reportedly in full flow to meet half way over a realistic fee.

One potential plus side is the alleged eagerness Skriniar has to join Tottenham, as backed up by reliable correspondent Alasdair Gold, who claims the defender is ‘[very keen](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tottenham-transfer-rumours/milan-skriniar-keen-spurs-move-alasdair-gold/)‘ on a move.

Lauded as ‘[excellent](https://www.football-italia.net/151222/di-canio-skriniar-doesnt-know-what-do)‘ by ex-Premier League striker Paolo Di Canio, landing the 6ft 2 star in a last minute swoop would certainly put the cherry on top of what has been a stellar window for the club.
